Paulsboro, NJ — In celebration of Women’s History Month, local author, community leader,
and councilwoman Kyana T. Evans is visiting local schools and community centers to read her
newly released children’s book, Lay’s Big Question, inspiring young students to think about
leadership, community, and the important roles people play in making a difference.
During these special classroom visits, Evans reads her book aloud and engages students in
conversations about community helpers, leadership, and the power of asking questions. The
story encourages children to imagine how they can grow into leaders in their own
communities—an important theme during Women’s History Month as students learn about
women who have shaped history through courage, service, and determination.
“Women’s History Month is about celebrating the women who asked bold questions and stepped
forward to lead in their communities. Lay’s Big Question encourages young readers to do the
same—to be curious, to care about their communities, and to believe their voices matter.”
Following the story reading, students participate in interactive discussions and activities that
connect the book’s message to real-life community roles such as firefighters, construction
workers, police officers, educators and elected officials. These conversations encourage children
to think about how they can contribute to their communities now and in the future.
Lay’s Big Question is a children’s book centered on curiosity, civic engagement, and the
importance of understanding the people and systems that help communities thrive. Evans
regularly visits schools and community organizations to promote literacy, leadership, and civic
pride among young learners.
Educators interested in hosting a Women’s History Month reading or classroom visit can
contact Evans for future school visits and literacy events.
